Rendering and plastering in Aberdare and Merthyr Tydfil
Rendering and plastering are different jobs. Render protects and finishes external walls; plaster produces smooth interior surfaces. Both depend on a properly prepared, dry and sound background.
Draft scope: owner must confirm this service, its materials and exclusions before launch.
Who this is for
Owners wanting to refresh external walls, repair cracked or blown render, or have plaster repaired or skimmed after other building work.
Signs you may need it
- Cracked, hollow or flaking render
- Damp patches on external walls
- Cracked or damaged interior plaster
- New walls, extensions or re-wiring needing a finish
What is included
- Repair or replacement of external render with the chosen finish
- Preparation including removing loose areas
- Internal patching and skim finishing
- Making good after other trades
What is not included
- Damp-proofing treatments or solutions for rising damp, which first need a proper diagnosis
- Painting and decorating unless agreed
- Insulation systems unless specifically quoted
Options and materials
- Sand and cement render. Traditional and widely used; needs appropriate paint or finish.
- Through-coloured or silicone render. Lower maintenance; confirm availability and applicator experience.
- Skim coat versus full replaster. Depends on the condition of the existing plaster.
How the job runs
- Enquiry. Tell us what you can see and where the property is. Photos help but are not required at this stage.
- Site assessment. We inspect the wall, check for damp and decide what needs removing before anything new goes on.
- Written quote. You receive the scope, materials and price in writing so you can compare it like for like.
- Preparation and work. Access, protection of the surrounding area and timing are agreed before work begins.
- Handover. We walk through what was done, tidy up and remove waste. Ask us for any paperwork you need.
What affects the cost
We do not publish fixed prices because every property differs. The main factors are:
- Area and height (scaffolding)
- Condition of the existing surface
- System and finish chosen
- Amount of repair needed first
- Number of rooms for plastering
Price guidance
We only publish prices the owner has approved, and none are published for this service yet. Every quote is based on the factors above.
Access, disruption and weather
- Render needs dry weather and can be damaged by frost.
- Plaster needs drying time before decorating.
- Dust and scaffold are likely for external jobs.

Questions
Why is my render cracking?
Possible causes include movement, poor preparation, moisture behind the render and the wrong mix. A site visit is needed to say which.
How long before I can paint plaster?
Drying time varies with thickness and conditions. We will advise at the time.
Do you do damp-proofing?
Treat that as a separate specialist question. We will tell you plainly if it falls outside what we cover.
