Flat roofing in Aberdare and Merthyr Tydfil

Flat roofs on extensions, garages and porches fail in different ways from pitched roofs. Ponding water, split joints and worn surface layers are common causes, and the right fix depends on what is underneath.

Draft scope: owner must confirm this service, its materials and exclusions before launch.

Who this is for

Owners of flat-roofed extensions, garages, porches, dormer cheeks and outbuildings who have a leak or an ageing covering.

Signs you may need it

  • Pools of standing water after rain
  • Cracks, blisters or splits in the surface
  • Leaks at edges, upstands or where the roof meets a wall
  • Soft or spongy decking when walked on
  • A covering that has reached the end of its life

What is included

  • Surveying the roof, decking and drainage falls
  • Local repairs where the structure is sound
  • Full replacement of the covering and, where needed, the deck
  • Edge trims, flashings and outlets
  • Insulation upgrades only where agreed in the quote

What is not included

  • Structural redesign of the roof
  • Rainwater pipework beyond the roof edge unless agreed

Options and materials

  • Fibreglass (GRP). A seamless finish that suits awkward shapes. Workmanship and weather conditions during application matter greatly. Offered only if the owner confirms.
  • EPDM rubber membrane. Often supplied as a single sheet for simple shapes. Confirm availability.
  • Built-up felt. Traditional multi-layer system; quality varies with the system chosen.

How the job runs

  1. Enquiry. Tell us what you can see and where the property is. Photos help but are not required at this stage.
  2. Site assessment. We check the surface, edges, decking condition and where water is meant to leave the roof.
  3. Written quote. You receive the scope, materials and price in writing so you can compare it like for like.
  4. Preparation and work. Access, protection of the surrounding area and timing are agreed before work begins.
  5. Handover. We walk through what was done, tidy up and remove waste. Ask us for any paperwork you need.

What affects the cost

We do not publish fixed prices because every property differs. The main factors are:

  • Roof area and shape
  • Whether the deck is sound or needs replacing
  • Chosen system
  • Insulation requirements
  • Access to the roof and for materials

Price guidance

We only publish prices the owner has approved, and none are published for this service yet. Every quote is based on the factors above.

Access, disruption and weather

  • Some coverings need dry weather for application and curing, so start dates move with the forecast.
  • Fumes or smells from some materials are possible; tell us about vulnerable occupants.
  • Quotes should state exactly what is replaced and what is retained.

Questions

How long does a flat roof last?

It varies widely by system, installation quality and maintenance. We would rather explain the expected life of the specific system in the quote than quote a generic figure.

Can a flat roof be repaired rather than replaced?

Sometimes. If the deck is sound and the covering is damaged only locally, repair can be reasonable. If the deck is wet through, replacement is usually better value.

Is fibreglass the best flat roof?

It suits many situations, but no single system is best for everyone. The right choice depends on shape, access, budget and what needs to be tied in.
